Occupational Therapy Assessment

As children's occupational therapists, we assess physical, sensory, perceptual, social-emotional and environmental factors that may be impacting on a child's well-being and ability to reach their potential. These areas usually include fine and gross motor coordination, handwriting, sensory processing differences, visual perception skills, attention and general play, level of engagement and social-emotional skills. We use a range of standardised and qualitative assessment tools.

Our comprehensive OT assessment and report process usually include a combination of the following depending on individual requirements:
  • Developmental history and background
  • Medical and educational information sharing
  • Parent and School consultation Sensory Profile-2 (SP-2)
  • Bruininks Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency-2 (BOT-2)
  • Beery Visual Motor Integration Test (VMI)
  • Neurological clinical observations
  • Handwriting speed and technique
  • Activities of daily living
  • Play and social skills

SP-2, BOT-2 and VMI provide percentiles and standardised scores measured against the typical population within the child’s age range.

This data is analysed and explained alongside clinical and qualitative observations within your child's thorough and professional occupational therapy report.

The BOT-2 is a recognised tool to assess for Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD), and is widely used to confirm a DCD diagnosis with your paediatrician.
